A murky cover for Swamp Thing

With the current "Swamp Thing" TV show on DC Universe and my recent rereading of the whole 80's Swamp Thing comics (written by Alan Moore), it was hard for me not make another Swampy drawing! Enjoy.

Bliska

So, there it is. "Bliska" is the last and final EP from my solo project Londead.

When I started Londead, I was in a hole near New Cross gate in London, UK. This project helped me coping with hard times and self-doubt-- ultimately making me realize that most of these things, that perhaps I thought would be temporary due to my personal life at the beginning of the project, would stay with me until the end.

I began writing "Bliska" in late 2016, after arriving in the city of Warsaw (Poland) where I lived for the next 2 years. What should have been a very spontaneous EP (like "Brs de fear" in 2013) became something bigger, and it took me 2 years to fully finish the songs. This EP goes back to the musical roots of the project, but also features more vocals than ever before, and IN FRENCH throughout the whole thing. For years I wasn't interested in using my mothertongue in my music because I had (still have) mixed feelings with it as a "sung language", but on these songs, it came out naturally... and it added the definitive nail to the coffin of the project, making it my most testimonial recording, for better or worse: at the end of the mixing process, I understood that Londead was done. You can't run away from ghosts; you learn to live with them, to embrace them even. Nothing happens the way you'd like it to happen anyway.

To the people who listened / shared / spoke & wrote about it / actually gave a damn: Thank you. It meant a lot more than I could say. It's time to let go.

Drink & Draw

Drew this in a bar yesterday (Le Broc Café, in Montpellier) for 2 hours while chatting and having a pint. It was a nice experiment!

A thought for Stan (1922-2018)

Spidey has lost his two dads this year, and I feel blue.

If you know me you know that when it comes to American comics, I've always been a Marvel fan before everything else. And there wouldn't be any Marvel comics nor these characters without Stan "The Man" Lee, his creative mind and the gifted artists he was surrounded by when they created everything. Even if he was 95 and had a long and great life, as many readers, I am quite heartbroken.

As a kid, in all the Spider-man and X-Men comics I was reading, there was a little "Stan Lee presents" at the top of the first page (of course I didn't know/care who he was at the time). Then, when I was 8 or 9, an uncle of mine brought me back from the US a Spider-man CD-Rom that included interactive digital comics (The Amazing Spider-Man #238-240, first appearance of Hobgoblin), video samples from the 90's cartoon, and... some other video clips of Stan Lee introducing chapters from this story. In these little clips, he was super energetic, and that was super odd to the 8-years-old-me since he looked quite old (my grandpas were not so dynamic, lol). That's how I first discovered who Stan Lee was, and to be honest I instantly thought "hey, Spidey's creator is cool!" ...and in spite of the years, with him becoming as famous in pop culture than his co-creations, appearing in the Marvel films, it was always a pleasure to see him - his enthusiasm and humor were always super infectious to me.

Everything has been said on his legacy and his contributions to comics in general... Lee enjoyed playing the showman in front of an audience, but in his comic work there was always something epic and so relatable when he was throwing his trademark 'one-liners' about his characters... Stuff that he put in the very heart of these fictional heroes, that we grew up with... Power, responsibilities, hope, worth, perseverance, understanding... On Twitter, actor Seth Rogen said "Thank you Stan Lee for making people who feel different realize they are special" and I believe this is absolutely true. (For better or worse!)

I feel like I owe him a lot, for who I am, things that I stand for, things I enjoy...
It feels like I'm losing one of my creative heroes. And it feels like there will never be another guy like Stan Lee.

R.I.P. Stan, thank you for everything! Excelsior!!

Inktober 2018: done!

This is the first time that I manage to make it to the end of the Inktober challenge, and I'm glad I did it! Of course, having a small format and a general "superheroes" topic to focus on helped a lot... ^^'

I'd like to thank all of you who have been sending likes and support throughout this challenge; it has been a very enriching and funny ride and I'm looking forward to making it again next year!
